Track selection for tracked transporters

The role of the tracks is to ensure that the machine has enough traction on the ground to transfer the mass of the locomotive to the ground. Most of the cases of tracks are working in mud and water, the working environment is uncontrollable and wear is easy, so it is important for the extension of track life.

Requirements for tracks

1、High working reliability and long service life.

2、Good working stability.

3、Excellent adhesion performance to the ground.

4、Good decoupling performance while ensuring rolling resistance and steering resistance are as small as possible.

5、The overall mass should be as low as possible.

Criteria for selecting tracks

The self-propelled crawler tiller uses rubber tracks made of hard rubber with a certain amount of steel plates embedded in the track teeth and supporting wheels. It has the advantages of wheels and metal tracks: (1) small ground pressure, good passability and strong off-road capability; (2) less wear on the concrete road when the rubber tracks are running on it, so it no longer needs a special transport tool for short-distance transportation; (3) simple structure, no maintenance.

According to the form of driving wheel, rubber tracks can be divided into two types: gear-tooth type and wheel-hole type. The wheel-tooth type is driven by the outer edge of the drive wheel, which is made into teeth, and the drive part of the track is driven by the teeth. This driving method has good mud release and is not easy to derail. The wheel-hole type is driven by making the outer edge of the drive wheel into a hole and inserting the teeth of the drive member of the track into the hole. The mud accumulated in the drive wheel hole is difficult to get out, and it is easy to derail. The wheel-tooth type track is used in the current crawler-tiller. The pitch of the track teeth and the pitch of the drive wheel teeth are the same, so the parameters of the track are mainly track length, track width and track tooth pitch. According to the relevant research, trapezoidal shaped track spurs are suitable for rubber tracks, which are chosen in the track selection. The track grounding length should be designed appropriately. If the grounding length is too small, it will make the longitudinal stability of the whole machine worse and the fin head phenomenon may occur during the rotating operation; while the grounding length of the track is too large, it will make the steering resistance and steering resistance moment increase and thus lead to steering difficulties.
